Maria Sharapova admits winning Wimbledon just weeks after securing her first French Open title would be the crowning glory of her career. Sharapova captivated the All England Club as a 17-year-old who came from nowhere to beat Serena Williams in the final eight years ago and the Russian is convinced she is finally back in the right form and condition to emulate that astonishing triumph. The Russian’s victory over Sara Errani in the Roland Garros final earlier this month was a cathartic moment for the 25-year-old, who had gone four years without winning a major as she struggled with the aftermath of serious shoulder surgery....

The five-time grand slam champion, soundly beaten by new world number one Simona Halep in the China Open last week, saw off Linette 7-5 6-3 to move into the last eight. Sharapova has not added to her huge haul of titles since returning from a doping ban, but remains in the hunt for a 36th WTA Tour singles success after claiming the only break of the first set and two in the second to prevail....

An upcoming documentary entitled Extinct or Alive: Land of the Lost Sharks—part of Discovery’s “Shark Week”—features footage of the animal, the flapnose houndshark, as well as two other lost species, the whitetip weasel shark and ornate sleeper-ray. Galante has made a career out of searching for species that are on the brink of extinction. For his latest film, he decided to head to the eastern coast of South Africa where over a third of the world’s shark species converge....

Ward did not return to that game, and on Thursday, head coach Peter DeBoer said Ward sustained a “significant injury” and while no specific timetable was given for his return, he too sounds like he will be out for a while. DeBoer meanwhile was upset over the play Ward sustained his injury on. It occurred about seven minutes into the second period, with the Sharks trailing 2-1. No penalty was assessed on the play, and Ward did not return to the game....

Leoaai Elghareeb, who is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, allegedly walked down a street in West London carrying a black bucket of syringes, some of which had needles attached, throwing them at people outside and inside several supermarkets, the Independent reported. The 37-year-old is also alleged to have thrown a syringe of blood at the chest of a doctor in the street during what the newspaper called an “alleged rampage” on the evening of August 25, 2021....

Veteran relief pitcher Sergio Romo has agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract to remain with the club, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal. Romo, a former All-Star, started 2014 as the Giants’ closer but eventually gave way to Santiago Casilla. He gave up nine home runs in 58 innings last season, finishing with 23 saves and a career-worst 3.72 ERA. The 31-year-old righthander’s best season came in 2013, when he became the Giants’ full-time closer....

Kimberly and Jaren Morris, both 32, alleged that their son Jaheim, 5, was rejected by the character. The family from Little Rock, Arkansas, said the incident happened in March at Sesame Street Land at SeaWorld in Orlando. The Morris’ claims come in the wake of a $25 million lawsuit filed by a family following a viral video that appears to show the character Rosita ignoring two young Black girls during a “meet and greet” at Sesame Place in Philadelphia....

“Republicans stuck by Trump no matter how bad he was for the party because they agreed with him,” Meyers said in his Thursday night monologue. “They were engaged in the same project and wanted the same things. Acting on a tip off, the Bidhannagar police nabbed all the seven when they were busy selling tickets against high prices, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate sources said. Some of the arrested were also allegedly found in an inebriated state, the sources added. Bluepoint Games, the developer behind the Shadow of the Colossus remake, has now confirmed that the game will include a Photo Mode when it is released early next month. Bluepoint realized that the development team spent “more and more time with Photo Mode as the system took shape, grabbing photos we thought captured moments that were unique and awe-inspiring.” Naturally, it made sense to let players get on on the photo-capturing fun too....
