Players will reportedly have access to a pleasing variety of weapons, which each seem to display an ammunition count on the weapon itself. Lining up shots in a virtual reality environment is no easy task, so it looks like Serious Sam VR will be a unique title for fans both new and old to the series. The title will be releasing for both the Oculus Rift and the HTC VIVE.

The game will introduce plenty of new enemies for players to kill, though classic enemies like the Gnaar and the Beheaded Kamikaze each make a return. Each level will end with Serious Sam duking it out in a colossal boss fight.

According to developer Croteam, the plot of the game has Serious Sam helping a crumbling Earth Defense Force fight back against Mental’s hordes of seemingly relentless monsters. For the unaware, Mental is the main antagonist of the series, and is the last of a species which used to rule over the galaxy. Serious Sam will take the action across several planets over the course of the game, unlocking better weapons as more enemies fall.

Notably, the last time Croteam went to create a Serious Sam title, the studio eventually ended up with the puzzle-based title The Talos Principle. Evidently, the studio stuck more on par with the course this time.

The latest entry to the Serious Sam franchise wasn’t the only virtual reality title to get attention ahead of E3 2016, as both Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Eagle Flight VR got a chance to shine at Ubisoft’s E3 Press Conference earlier today. When compared with the others, though, Serious Sam is certainly the goriest choice among them.

Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope will find its way to Steam Early Access, the Oculus Rift, and the Vive later this summer.
