One of the reasons that Severance is so good is that there are plenty of questions that were created throughout the first season. Some of those are ones that are not going to be answered in a Season 2 of Severance unless that happens to be the last season. Some of those questions are big enough that they are going to last right up until the end. There are other questions that can help lay down more puzzle pieces to really figure out what’s going on in this show. While not every question is going to get an answer, there are some that definitely need an answer in order to keep the show rolling right along.

What Is Going On With Milchick And Dylan?
One of the weirder and more important segments when it comes to Severance was in Episode 6. It was a happening that started everything else in the show as the beginning of the end of Lumon seems to have been put in motion. But when Milchick activated the Overtime Protocol in Dylan’s closet, it also started an avalanche of questions about just how that whole thing worked. Not the least of which is how did Milchick get into Dylan’s closet without Dylan’s Outtie finding it a bit strange he was there at all.
When Milchick is in Dylan’s home, he tells his son to watch TV and count to a certain number in order to wait for the two adults to finish the conversation in the closet. However, there’s no explanation as to why Dylan’s Outtie would ever get into the closet with Milchick unless he knows the other man in the “real world.” It doesn’t seem like Severance was being all that subtle with the two men being in a literal closet.
The audience didn’t get to see the reaction of Dylan’s Outtie when Milchick was at his house and asked him to get into the closet with him. It seems as if the two men definitely know each other in the real world in some way. The fact that the kid didn’t seem all that spooked by Milchick being there seems to hint that it’s more than just a buddy situation. The show did a good job of leaving that question out there in the either so far, but it’s one that probably needs to get an answer at some point, or it just starts to look like Severance forgot how odd that really was.
Does Irving Live Without Burt?
Innie Burt and Innie Irving were just starting to see their romance really blossom in the middle episodes of Severance before Burt was forced to take retirement. Towards the end of the season finale, Innie Irving decides the one thing he needs to do most is to go find the man he loves and talk to him, eventually driving to his house and banging on his door.
Of course, because this is a cliffhanger, the Severance audience doesn’t get to see what happens and it certainly appears that the switch has been flipped and that the Outties are about to come back, but it sure seems as if something was going to happen with Burt and Irving. It’s also possible of course that the show was just going to make their romance a little more tragic in that Innie Burt would then remember how close he was to seeing Burt again. Either way, just what happens here needs to be answered and the show needs to show what the after-effects of that potentially tragic moment leads to.
Will Anyone Understand Mark’s Message?
It feels like this particular question will be answered fairly quickly on Severance. At the end of the episode, he came running out of the room, realizing that Ms. Casey is also his (supposedly dead) wife. Knowing that he might have just seconds to tell someone that he’s seen the connection, he yells “she’s alive” just as the flip to shut down the Innies appears to be getting flipped.
It would seem as if the answer to this question is going to be “no” considering that everyone at the party is preoccupied with just having found the baby that was believed to have been kidnapped. Of course, there are other ways that the message could get through if the show really wanted to be smart. It’s even possible Mark’s sister would figure out what he was talking about enough to at least push to do some digging. It feels like the Apple TV series is going to answer this one right at the front of the new season of Severance.
Will Anyone Take Helly’s Message Seriously?
At first glance, it appears that Helly might have said enough to bring the whole thing down on Severance, but the question is going to be whether or not anyone at that particular event takes her seriously. It seems likely that the powers that be are going to be quick enough to laugh that off in some way shape or form. Just how that might happen is going to be interesting to watch as it seems incredibly unlikely that Lumon is realy going to topple based on one speech from someone who actually underwent the Severance process. Especially since Helly’s Outtie is very much on board with what the company is doing.
What Is Lumon’s Bigger Plan?
It’s possible that this question might stretch into a third season of the Apple TV show, should one exist thanks to the fact that it certainly seems to be the biggest question out there. What’s going on with the goat room? Why is the company so invested in making Severance work beyond its walls? And why does it seem perfectly fine to both abusing and even disappearing its employees? What’s up with Ms. Casey and why does she just go into a dark room when she’s not needed? All of these questions all boil down to the big one. It needs to be answered, but it’s also the one that’s least likely to actually get a solid answer unless the writers know the show is coming to an end well in advance.
