Severed Steel was released in 2021 to widespread acclaim from fans and critics. Taking influence from games like Doom and Mirror’s Edge, Greylock’s single-player shooter rapidly became a favorite among the FPS crowd for its fast-paced gameplay, slick bullet time mechanics, and striking aesthetic. Since its 2021 release, Severed Steel has continually evolved with massive updates adding new levels, weapons, enemies, and even a Level Editor mode with Steam Workshop support so that the community can get the most out of the game.

Today’s Rogue Steel update for Severed Steel initially launched on PC in October 2022 before finding its way to consoles. However, console gamers should be happy to learn that some console specializations were made during that time so that the game works better on PlayStation and Switch, namely in gyro controls. The complete list of new features in the Rogue Steel update includes a new rogue-lite game mode titled “Rogue Steel,” gyro controls for the Switch, PS4, and PS5, 23 new Firefight mutators, six new weapons, five new modified enemy types, eight new exclusive types, a Cutting Beam mode for the Cannon weapon, 10 character skins, and 15 Cannon skins.

Console gamers should be happy to know that the PC community has been quite warm towards the Rogue Steel update, making this patch one to check out for gamers who own Severed Steel on a PlayStation, Switch, or Xbox. Moreover, today’s update is one that PlayStation and Switch owners, in particular, may appreciate. Severed Steel now supports gyro aiming for controllers, which is a great improvement to the game’s accessibility. As a fast-paced twitch shooter built with a keyboard and mouse in mind, adding gyro controls to the console versions gives Severed Steel that extra precision that might not always be possible with analog sticks.

Severed Steel’s new rogue-lite mode should also be a welcome addition, as the game’s three-hour-long campaign was a minor complaint among fans who wanted even more from the game. Rogue-lite games typically thrive due to their dynamic and replayable gameplay loops, and Severed Steel’s Rogue Steel mode seems to be targeting that same sweet spot of fun and replayability. Fans that can’t get enough of Severed Steel should have plenty to look forward to with this new update.

Severed Steel is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
