The Tomb Raider series has not seen the light of day since the release of the 2013 installment, Rise of the Tomb Raider, but with a brand new movie coming to theaters soon it seems Square Enix is ready to show gamers what’s next. As was mentioned, the official reveal is only a few hours away but those that can’t wait can get a sneak peek at the trailer below.
The quality of the video isn’t the greatest and there is no real gameplay to be seen, but perhaps Square Enix’s announcement will include more details about the game. Those that have looked at the source code for the game’s official website have found that this is “the climatic finale in Lara’s origin story” and last year data miners were the first to find out the game’s title. The code and now this trailer also reveal that the game will be releasing on September 14, 2018.
Square Enix recently revealed the franchise was going to be taking a “new approach" but unfortunately there is no hint of that in the trailer. The footage does suggest that Lara will be heading to a locale with ancient temples (South America?) and the story likely has something to do with an eclipse or world-ending event, but any details beyond that are hard to glean. Luckily, players won’t have to wait long to find out more.
According to the official Tomb Raider site, the game will be unveiled at 6am PDT. Presumably, this trailer will accompany whatever announcement developer Crystal Dynamics makes, and it will be in a clearer and official form.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider seems to be set to come out on September 14, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One according to the latest trailer leak.
